The launch of ko&co workhub: sips, snacks and soul.

We're here. We're open. And we're building something that matters for small businesses and people doing big things on their own.

A night to remember: the launch of ko&co workhub

When I opened the doors to ko&co workhub in South Melbourne this April, it wasn’t just about launching a coworking space. It was about creating a different kind of workplace for solopreneurs, creatives, remote professionals and small business owners.

A place built on connection, creativity and a little bit of courage.

A space for workdays that don’t feel lonely or corporate.

A calm, human-centred coworking environment where energy flows because people are supported, not just seated.

And on launch night, that vision came to life.

Sips, snacks and soul

There were no ribbon cuttings (although in hindsight, that would’ve been fun).

Just a fridge full of bubbles, a grazing table that didn’t stand a chance (thank you, Emerald Hill Provodore and others from the South Melbourne Market!), and a room full of beautiful chaos: hugs, laughter, and conversations that started like ‘what do you do?’ and ended with ‘we should collaborate.’

Okay, yes, there was one speech, from me! Just a quick thank you, a moment to share why ko&co exists and a nudge to keep spreading the word.

It was a full house of friends, current members, collaborators, locals and longtime supporters who have cheered me on through every step. And for many, it was their first time walking through the door. The number of ‘I had no idea how big and amazing this was’ moments made all the behind-the-scenes work feel worth it.

The space did what it was designed to do

ko&co workhub has always been about feeling good the moment you walk in.

Not just aesthetic good, but energy good.

Even as the winter chill set in that evening, the space held people. The light was soft (everyone knows I can’t stand fluorescent lighting!), the kitchen buzzed, and the walls, dressed in cheeky illustration and meaningful quotes, felt like they were in on every conversation.

ko&co was never just about filling a space, it was about honouring one.

The bones of our South Melbourne coworking space on Buckhurst St have always held something special. There’s character in every curve, marks from past makers, energy left behind by businesses that began here and grew beyond it. Including Yeti, who launched in this very building some five years ago!

We didn’t strip that history back; we built on it. We let the space speak. We simply added to it: with intention, warmth and a quiet kind of calm.

It’s not perfect, and that’s exactly why it’s perfect as a coworking space.

Every corner carries intention.

Every detail, a welcome.

And the building itself? It carries you forward.

Why it mattered

For me, this launch wasn’t just a celebration; it was a milestone—a marker of what it takes to bring something like this to life.

Signing the lease.

Painting walls

Building the brand, the website, and the systems

The furniture (okay, someone else built it, I offered moral support)

Welcoming our first member

It’s all part of the story. And on this night, I got to pause for a second, look around, and say, ‘We’re here. We’re open. And we’re building something that matters for small businesses and people doing big things on their own.’

So what's next?

Since launch night, the community has quietly grown.

Strangers sit beside each other, share lunch, and then start laughing like old colleagues.

Ideas are swapped; referrals are passed. Solopreneurs and remote professionals are finding their rhythm, their people and their ideal work environment.

And to think … this all began on April 1 (not an April Fool’s joke, I promise). Eight weeks in, we’ve already got stories to tell.

If this is just the beginning, I can’t wait to see what 12 weeks hold.

So, if you missed the party, don’t worry – if you know me, there will be another one! But on another note, understand that the doors are always open.

The coffee’s hot.

And the workdays? They’re no longer solo.
